A list of winners tells you nothing about who was permitted to enter.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
A list of who won says nothing about who was eligible, who could afford to apply, who knew the opportunity existed, or who was quietly discouraged. The outcome is visible and the gate is not, and reading achievement from the winners alone means reading only the last step of a much longer filter.
When results look like a statement about merit, ask about entry. Who applied, who did not, and why. If you are running something, publishing who was in the pool matters nearly as much as publishing who came out on top.
Who was never allowed to compete for something you won?
