You can be a beginner again without becoming the person you were the first time.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Starting again is not returning. You bring everything you have learned about how to be bad at something, how to persist, how much of the discomfort is normal, and none of that was available the first time. The beginner status is real and the beginner is not.

If something new is making you feel foolish, notice how differently you handle it than you would have at twenty. Being bad at a thing on purpose, in public, is a skill you have acquired. It is worth using it more often, since it is the main advantage of having been through it before.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you start over now with everything you have learned since?
