Your future does not care how impressive your potential sounded.

Potential is a description of what has not happened yet, and at some point it stops being a compliment. Being told you could do something is useful early and corrosive if it goes on for decades, because it lets a person feel accomplished for a capacity they have never converted.

Pick one thing you have long been told you could do and do a small version of it in the next two weeks. Finished and modest beats promising and endless. The conversion is the whole thing.
