The fruit in a store has traveled farther than many of the people who picked it.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Fruit routinely travels further than the people who harvested it. The produce crosses borders freely while the hands that picked it stay put, held by cost, documents, and law. The same system that makes distance nothing for the goods makes it substantial for the workers.
You are not going to fix that at the supermarket, and small gestures often function mostly as self-comfort. What is available is not looking away: knowing roughly where things come from and who does the work, and supporting the arrangements that improve conditions when you get a say. Accurate attention is a modest thing, and it is better than the alternative of not knowing on purpose.
Whose labour reached your kitchen today?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
