The person who remembers to ask about your ordinary project has honored more than its importance to others.

GRATITUDE
Most of what a person cares about is not important to anybody else, and they know it. Asking about the small allotment, the slow renovation, the quiet study says you were interested in them rather than in the significance of the thing. That is rarer than praise for achievements and lands differently. It tells someone their life is worth noticing at its ordinary size.
Think of a project someone mentioned once that nobody follows up on. Ask about it this week, and hold on to a detail so you can ask again later. Following up twice is what makes the interest believable.
Who asks about the small thing you are working on?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
