Good design reduces the number of times people must ask to be considered.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Every time a person has to ask for a door to be held, a menu to be read aloud, or an exception to be made, they pay a small tax in attention and self-consciousness. Each request is granted cheerfully, which is precisely why the cost stays invisible to everyone but them. Good design removes the asking instead of making it easier. Doing something yourself is not the same as being helped kindly.

Look at something you run and count the points where someone would have to request an exception. Make one of those the ordinary path this month.
