A doubter can be useful fuel for years and then quietly outstay their usefulness. When the day finally comes, they are still standing in the middle of it, which means the thing you built is partly theirs. What began as motivation ends as a share of the reward handed to someone who did nothing to help.

When you next reach something you worked hard for, notice who you are imagining hearing about it. If it is them, set the thought down and call someone who was on your side. Let the day belong to the people who were there.
