An older relative’s home should not be reorganized as if their preferences have expired.

Helping in someone’s house can slide into improving it. Cupboards get rearranged for efficiency, clutter gets cleared, furniture moves somewhere more sensible, and a person who still lives there loses the map of their own rooms. What looks like mess from outside is often a system built over decades.

Ask before moving anything, including the things that seem obviously wrong. Offer the change and accept a no. Help with what they asked for first, and let the rest stay exactly where they put it.
