Most of what is worth noticing is in plain view and is simply quieter than what is competing for you. Nothing is concealed. Attention goes to whatever is loudest by default, and the loud things are rarely the ones that would have moved you.

Spend ten minutes somewhere familiar without your phone and see what is actually there. Beauty in ordinary settings is mostly a question of whether anything else is shouting.
