The person who is easy to impress may also be easy to disappoint.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Enthusiasm that arrives instantly is usually not built on much. Someone who is delighted by the first thing you show them has not examined it, and the same lightness that produced the praise will produce the retreat when something goes wrong. It is not dishonesty. Their judgment simply moves quickly in both directions.
When praise comes fast, enjoy it and hold it loosely. Look instead for the people who ask a second question before they approve, because their opinion will still be there in six months. And if you are the quick one, try waiting a day before you say anything final about someone’s work.
Whose quick admiration have you learned not to lean on?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
