A borrowed ambition can make genuine progress feel strangely unsatisfying.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Progress toward a goal you did not choose tends to arrive flat. The milestone is real, the effort was real, and the expected satisfaction does not appear, which is confusing enough that most people conclude something is wrong with them. Usually the wanting belonged to somebody else: a parent, a field you fell into, a version of success absorbed so early it never got examined.

When a win lands strangely, ask who you were imagining telling about it. That answer often names the owner of the ambition. Then look at the small things you do that nobody is watching, because those are the ones you actually chose.
