LEADERSHIP
Feedback aimed at a person’s character leaves them nowhere to go. Being called careless or unfocused describes a verdict, not a lever, and the usual response is either defensiveness or a vague promise to try harder. What people can act on is specific and observable: a step that got skipped, a message that arrived too late, a habit with a time and a place attached.
Before your next piece of feedback, test it against one question. Could they do something different tomorrow morning because of this? If not, keep reworking the wording until they could. Say the action, not the adjective.
Which criticism did you give that named a person, not an action?
