The pleasure of growing can survive a season that did not follow the plan.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Growing anything means agreeing in advance to a partner you cannot control. Weather, pests and time make their own decisions, and if your enjoyment depends on the season matching the plan, that enjoyment is fragile in a way the plants are not. What lasts is the attention itself: the checking, the smell of the soil, the interest in what happened and why.

When something fails this year, stay in the garden anyway. Ask what the conditions were rather than what you did wrong, and plant something small again. A season that disappoints is still a season spent outdoors and learned from.
