A changed plan can still protect the part of the goal that mattered most.

Plans and purposes get bound together until any change to the route feels like abandoning the destination. Usually only one or two elements were ever essential, and the rest were means that seemed fixed because you thought of them first. When circumstances force a rewrite, the question is not whether the plan survived but whether the thing you actually wanted is still inside it; flexibility of method is often what loyalty to a goal looks like.
Take a plan that has slipped and write down the one outcome you would refuse to lose. Rebuild around that, and let the rest move.
If your plan changed tomorrow, what part must survive intact?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
