A correction should travel to the people who received the original mistake.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fixing an error quietly is only half of fixing it. The wrong number, the wrong date, the wrong impression is still sitting in someone’s notes, forwarded onward and shaping decisions, while the accurate version lives only where you noticed it. Corrections tend to be sent narrowly because they are embarrassing, so they reach fewer people than the mistake did. Accuracy that does not follow the same path as the error is mostly for your own comfort.

When you get something wrong this week, work out who acted on it and tell them directly. Make the correction as visible as the original was.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who still believes something you have since corrected elsewhere?
