A choice can be understandable and still be unwise.

RESILIENCE
Understanding why someone did something is not the same as endorsing it, including when the someone is you. The pressure was real, the reasoning made sense from inside, and the choice still made things worse. Collapsing those two judgments is how people either excuse everything or forgive nothing.
When you review your own decisions, try holding both. Say what made the choice understandable and then say plainly where it failed, without softening either half. That combination is what makes learning possible: compassion keeps you willing to look, and honesty gives you something to actually change next time.
