The kitchen feels friendlier when learning is allowed to leave a little mess.

Nobody learns to cook neatly. Flour on the counter, a pan used wrong, a sauce that separates: these are the visible cost of somebody becoming capable. If the mess is treated as the main event, the learner quietly decides it is easier to let you do it, and then you do it forever.
Decide in advance what level of chaos you will not comment on while someone in your house is learning. Clean up together afterward without narrating the damage. Save your corrections for the two things that actually affect the food.
Where does your tidiness stop someone from trying something new?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
