The person who names a problem clearly has made it harder for the room to ignore it politely.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Vagueness is what allows a group to avoid something without feeling dishonest. As long as the difficulty is described in soft, general terms, everyone can agree it is a shame and move on, but a clear sentence about what is actually wrong removes that exit. Naming a thing precisely puts it on the table where it has to be answered.

This is why the person who says it plainly is often the least popular in the room for an hour. If that is you, say the sentence anyway and without heat. If it is someone else, back them, because the alternative is another meeting that changes nothing.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What problem could you name plainly that everyone is politely avoiding?
