A schedule optimized to the last minute cannot receive anything. The friend who calls upset, the conversation that might have gone somewhere, the walk that was worth extending all need a margin, and a life without one turns the good interruptions into problems alongside the bad ones. Efficiency and availability trade against each other whether or not you ever decide about it.
Build the week at slightly less than full, on purpose. Then say yes to one unplanned thing that appears, and notice what a tighter version of the week would have refused.
What unplanned thing did you miss because your day was full?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
