Order that looks illogical from outside is often a system with reasons. The pile has a sequence, the awkward arrangement suits a bad shoulder, the layout is memorized by hands that no longer need to look. Improving it unasked hands the person a puzzle they did not want, and it also says their way of managing was a problem in need of correction.

Before you tidy or reorganize anything belonging to somebody else, ask how they use it. Help with what they want changed, and leave the rest exactly where it was.
