Some opportunities require you to risk looking foolish before you can look capable.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Competence has a public apprenticeship. To become good at something in front of others, you first have to be visibly not good at it, and there is no route that skips that stage. People who appear to have arrived fully formed generally served that apprenticeship somewhere you were not watching.

Decide in advance that the awkward period is part of the plan rather than evidence against it. Give it a length: three months of being a beginner, publicly. That framing makes it survivable, because you are not failing at looking capable, you are paying the cost that capability requires.
