An animal’s fear needs a safer situation, not a lesson about your intentions.

A frightened animal cannot be argued with. Explaining that you mean no harm, reaching in to reassure, or waiting for it to understand you all keep the thing it is afraid of in the room. Fear responds to changed circumstances: more distance, a lower voice, an exit it can see, time. Your good intentions are real and entirely invisible to it.
Next time an animal near you is scared, change something in the environment rather than trying to persuade it. Step back and let it choose whether to approach.
Who needed you to change something rather than explain that you meant well?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
