A student can need another explanation without needing a smaller ambition.

Confusion is regularly mistaken for a ceiling. Someone asks for the idea again, and the response is to quietly aim lower for them, which feels kind and costs them the thing they came for. Needing a second route says something about the first explanation, not about how far the person can go.
When somebody asks you to go over it again, change the angle rather than the target. Try an example, a drawing, or the same point from the opposite end. Say out loud that the aim has not moved, because they will often assume it has.
Whose goal did you lower when they only needed more time?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
