The detail you love may still be taking attention from the thing you meant to say.

Fondness for a part is not evidence that it belongs. The line you enjoy, the flourish you spent longest on, the detail that made the whole thing feel worth doing, each of them takes attention from somewhere, and often from the point you were actually trying to make. Being good is not the same as being in the right place.

Take the piece you love most and remove it for an afternoon. Look at what is left and see whether the meaning got clearer or thinner. Put it back only if the work needs it rather than because you do.
