Being brave does not mean ignoring danger; it means understanding it accurately.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Bravery is a matter of accurate assessment rather than blindness. The person who denies the danger is not brave; they are misinformed, and they tend to be surprised. Someone who sees the risk clearly, sizes it correctly, and proceeds anyway is doing something entirely different, and is usually safer as well.

Before something difficult, do the work of seeing it properly. What could actually go wrong, how likely, how bad, what would help. Clear sight often reduces the fear, and where it does not, at least you are frightened of the right things and can prepare for those specifically.
