Integrity removes many problems before they ever require solutions.

Honest conduct is largely preventative. The lie that never needed covering, the arrangement that never had to be explained, the resentment that never accumulated: none of these appear as achievements because the problems they would have caused never existed. The benefit is entirely in things that did not happen.

When integrity feels like it is costing you, remember you are also buying the absence of a whole category of future difficulty. Look at a situation you are currently managing and ask which earlier shortcut created it. That connection makes the preventative value considerably easier to see.
