A fair procedure deserves language the people affected can understand before it matters.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fairness is not only about what a rule does; it is about whether the people under it can follow what is happening. A process written in language only its authors parse is technically available and practically closed, and people usually reach it in the middle of something stressful. Clarity in advance is part of the fairness, not a courtesy afterwards. Otherwise the rule protects whoever had time to decode it.

Whatever you write for others to follow, read it back as someone meeting it under pressure. Cut the clause that needs a second reading. Then send it before the moment it applies, not with the bad news.
