Comfort with a room can look like confidence to someone entering it for the first time.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Knowing where things are is easily mistaken for being impressive. Whoever moves easily through a building, a meeting or a system has mostly been there before; they know the door, the names and the order of events, and none of that is talent. To a newcomer it reads as belonging, which can be discouraging in a way nobody intended. Familiarity looks like competence from outside.
If you are new somewhere, remember that most of what impresses you is repetition. If you are the familiar one, say a few things aloud that you no longer notice: where the kettle is, who to ask, what happens next.
Whose ease have you mistaken for confidence you lack?
