The more deeply you know a subject, the more carefully you use absolute words.

Absolutes get less comfortable the more you know, because you can think of the counterexamples. Always, never, everyone, impossible: each of these becomes harder to say once you have seen enough cases. Careful language is not timidity; it is accuracy catching up with knowledge.
Listen to your own absolutes for a week and check whether you can defend them. Where you cannot, replace them with something true: often, usually, in most cases I have seen. It sounds less forceful and it makes you considerably more reliable, both to others and to yourself.
Where do you say always and never too easily?
