The cousin you knew as a child may need a new introduction as an adult.

Family tends to keep people at the age it knew them best. The cousin filed away as the loud one at eight has spent thirty years becoming someone else, and none of that reached the file. This works in both directions, so whatever picture they hold of you is probably just as out of date. Nobody does it on purpose; it is how memory economises.
At the next gathering, ask a relative something you could not possibly already know the answer to. Their work, what their week looks like, what they have got interested in lately. Treat it as a first meeting and let the old picture update itself.
Who do you still meet as the child they once were?
