The new place becomes less abstract after you learn where to buy something simple.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowing a place is not the same as knowing about it. You can read the history, see the famous building, learn the layout, and still feel like you are visiting. What ends that is smaller and duller: knowing which shop has bread after six, which route avoids the hill, who to ask about the bins. Practical knowledge is what turns a location into somewhere you live.

If you have moved recently, go and solve three ordinary errands on purpose this week. It will do more for how settled you feel than any amount of exploring the interesting parts.
