Solitude introduces you to the person constant company keeps interrupting.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
There is a version of you that only appears when nobody else is in the room. Company, even good company, keeps you slightly oriented toward others, responding and adjusting, and that orientation covers over whatever was underneath. Solitude is simply the condition under which the other version gets to surface.
Give yourself some hours alone with nothing scheduled and no screen filling the space. It will be uncomfortable at first and the discomfort is part of the process. Notice what you think about when nothing external is directing you. That is usually where the useful material is.
When were you last alone long enough to hear yourself think?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
