The thing you enjoy making deserves time before it deserves an explanation of its usefulness.

CREATIVITY
Making something for pleasure gets interrogated in a way that watching television never does. As soon as an activity produces an object, people ask what it is for, whether you will sell it, whether you are any good, and the questions arrive early enough to strangle the thing before it has grown. Enjoyment is a sufficient reason on its own. Usefulness, if it comes, tends to arrive later and by surprise.
Give whatever you are making a stretch of unjustified time. If somebody asks what it is for, saying that you like doing it is a complete answer, and you do not owe a second one.
Does what you enjoy making have to earn its keep?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
