A crossed-out plan gives change a record without requiring a dramatic explanation.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Crossing something out leaves both versions on the page. The plan you had is still legible, the new one sits beside it, and nobody needs a speech about why the first became wrong. That is a lighter way to change your mind than announcing a revision, and it keeps an honest record that a clean rewrite would hide. Most changes of direction are small and reasonable, and having to justify them spoils them.

Keep a plan somewhere you can amend in ink rather than replace. When something shifts, strike the line and write the new one under it, and let that be the whole explanation.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH
