Some people discover their preferences only after they stop explaining them.

STILLNESS
Explaining a preference changes it. Once you have to justify why you like something, the reasons start doing the choosing, and things that cannot be defended quietly drop off the list. Without the requirement to explain, the actual preferences reassert themselves.
Try making some choices this week with no justification, not even to yourself. Do the thing because you want to. Notice what you choose when no case has to be made. Some of it will surprise you, and the surprise is a measure of how much explaining has been shaping your life.
