The identity that once gave direction can later make an honest change feel like disloyalty.

CREATIVITY
Naming yourself something gives early direction: it tells you what to practise and who to sit with. Years later, the same name can become a debt. Wanting something different starts to feel like betraying the person who chose it, even though that person chose it in order to grow, not in order to stay fixed. Loyalty to an old self is a strange thing to owe, since the old self was not asking for it.
If a change keeps stalling on the question of who you are, try describing it by what you now want to spend days doing. Identity can follow the days rather than lead them.
Which old version of yourself would object to changing now?
