The case that does not fit is not an annoyance to be filed away. It marks the exact edge of what your current explanation covers, which makes it the most informative thing available, more useful than a hundred examples that behave as expected. Most people meet an exception and reach for a reason to set it aside. Widening the understanding is harder and considerably more valuable.

When something this week refuses to fit your account of how things work, resist tidying it. Write it down and ask what would have to be true for both it and your usual cases to make sense together.
