A missed cue can reveal how carefully the whole group is listening.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Groups reveal themselves in the second after something goes wrong. If one person misses an entry and the others adjust without visible panic, that recovery shows an ensemble listening to each other rather than to their own parts. When nobody adjusts, the error becomes a collision. The quality of a group is not really visible while everything is going to plan; it appears in how quickly the rest of it moves to help.

Watch what your own group does with the next small mistake. If the instinct is to identify who erred, the more useful instinct to build is closing the gap first.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When someone faltered, how quickly did your group actually respond?
