A room’s noise can exclude someone while its invitation still says everyone belongs.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
An invitation describes an intention; a room describes what is actually possible. If the music is loud, the surfaces are hard and twelve conversations are running at once, then anyone with hearing loss, anyone who lipreads, anyone whose processing struggles in noise has effectively been left out, whatever the poster said. Welcome is a property of conditions, not of wording.
If you host anything, offer a quieter hour or a quieter corner and say so in the invitation itself. Ask one person what would make it easier for them rather than guessing. Turning the music down costs the room very little and returns the evening to more people.
Who is technically invited to your gatherings but cannot really join?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
