The unseen preparation deserves more than being mistaken for natural ease.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
What looks effortless is usually the last visible layer of a great deal of practice. Calling it natural talent is a compliment that quietly deletes the hours, and it also makes the skill look unavailable to anyone watching, which is unfair to them as well. Ease is a result, not a starting condition.
When you admire someone’s fluency, ask about the work rather than praising the gift. And when your own preparation goes unseen, you are allowed to mention it plainly, not as a complaint but as accurate information about what the thing took.
Whose ease have you mistaken for talent rather than preparation?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
