A window view can give someone a relationship with a street they seldom enter.

REFLECTION
Watching is a real form of participation. Someone who sees the same street every day from a chair knows its rhythms better than most of the people walking through it: which van comes when, who is out early, when the light changes across the wall opposite. That is a genuine relationship with a place, and it does not require going down the stairs to count. It matters most to people whose reach has narrowed for a while.
If someone you know spends most of the day indoors, take the view seriously in conversation. Ask what they have been watching, and keep the window clear and the chair well placed.
Which place do you know well from watching rather than entering?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
