A ramp is a route that lets someone’s arrival remain their own action.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
There is a difference between being helped in and getting in. A ramp does not do anything for a person; it removes the obstacle, so the arrival stays theirs, on their own timing, without anyone being asked or thanked. That independence is not a small extra on top of access. For many people it is the whole point, because having to request assistance turns every ordinary entrance into a negotiation.
When you arrange a space or an event, aim for the version where nobody has to ask. Getting the route right in advance is worth more than being ready to help at the door.
Where does your help quietly take the action away from someone?
