There is this paradox in pride,—it makes some men ridiculous, but prevents others from becoming so.

CREATIVITY
Pride does two opposite jobs depending on who holds it. In one person it inflates everything, produces the boasting and the refusal to be corrected, and makes them faintly absurd to everyone watching. In another it works as a floor: they will not cut that corner, will not be seen doing that, and the self-regard keeps them upright. The same material, used differently.
Work out which way yours runs. If it mostly stops you doing shabby things, leave it alone. If it mostly stops you admitting mistakes, that is the part to work on, and doing so does not require thinking less of yourself.
Where has pride protected you rather than made you look foolish?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
