The quality of a leader appears in what happens when they are absent.

Anything that only works while you are watching is not a system, it is your attention. The real test of leadership is what happens on the week you are unavailable, because that shows what was built rather than what was supervised. Presence can hide a great deal of fragility.

Step back deliberately from something for a short period and see what holds. Whatever breaks is a design problem worth fixing, and finding it on purpose is much cheaper than finding it by accident.
