Good is a good doctor, but Bad is sometimes a better.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Comfortable stretches teach less than difficult ones, because nothing forces a change in method while things are working. A setback removes the option of carrying on as before, and that is where most real adjustment happens. None of which makes hard things good, only occasionally instructive after the fact.

If something has gone wrong recently, there is no requirement to find a lesson in it now. Later, when it has cooled, you might look at what it made visible that you had been able to ignore. Keep the one useful thing and let the rest go without demanding that it justify itself.
