It is always right that a man should be able to render a reason for the faith that is within him.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being able to give your reasons is a test of whether the belief is actually yours. Plenty of what people hold was absorbed from a family, a profession or a period, and it survives untouched because it is never asked to explain itself. The moment you have to lay it out for someone who does not share it, you find out which parts you have thought about.

Pick one thing you hold firmly and explain it out loud this week to somebody who disagrees. Not to convert them, just to hear yourself. Where the explanation goes thin, that is the part worth reading about or reconsidering.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Could you explain what you believe to someone who asked plainly?
