Strength is not pretending it didn’t hurt; strength is refusing to let hurt decide what happens next.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Denying that something hurt takes constant effort and produces a brittle kind of toughness that fails at the worst moment. Real strength includes the acknowledgement, plainly, that the thing was painful and that you were affected by it. What it does not include is letting the hurt set the terms for everything that follows. You can feel it fully and still choose your next move.

Say clearly to yourself, or to someone you trust, that this hurt. Then separate that from the decision about what happens now. The feeling deserves an honest hearing; it does not need to be in charge.
