Everything that happens happens as it should, and if you observe carefully, you will find this to be so.

— Marcus Aurelius

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Events follow from causes, and looked at closely, even painful ones turn out to have a logic of their own rather than being insults aimed at you. That way of seeing can bring a certain steadiness, since the fact that something happened stops being an argument you have to keep having. It does not require calling a death, a cruelty or an injustice good, and nobody grieving should be asked to.

Once something has gone wrong, and in your own time, you might try separating what happened from your resistance to its having happened. Accept the first as fact, and see whether loosening your grip on the second leaves a little more strength for what comes next.
