Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.

— Benjamin Franklin

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Words like improvement and achievement only mean something against movement. Each is a comparison between where you were and where you are, so a life that stops moving does not merely stall, it empties those words of content. That is not a demand for constant striving, which wears people out. It is a reminder that the sense of getting somewhere comes from actual motion, however slow.

Pick something you can measure over three months rather than three days: pages, miles, savings, a skill. Track it somewhere visible. What people are usually chasing is not arrival but progress, and progress you can see turns out to be oddly sufficient.
