Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

— Samuel Taylor Coleridge

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wisdom sounds like a rare substance and mostly turns out to be ordinary judgement applied consistently, including when it is inconvenient. Nearly everyone knows that sleep matters, that anger passes, that you should ask rather than assume. What is rare is doing any of that on a bad day, at speed, with something at stake.

Stop hunting for insight you do not have and check instead whether you follow the plain things you already believe. Pick the one you break most often. Closing that gap will change more than another idea would.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who around you is wise in a plain, unglamorous way?
